How To Raise Chickens At Home

03/25/2021

It is very typical, when you are little, they give you a chick to raise at home and to play with, but in reality, it is something more complex, which requires some care and a lot of dedication for it to thrive and have good development. It is not only about having the desire to raise chicks, but you must also find out what they need.

The first thing you have to know is that there are different types of chickens depending on the use you want to give, that is, if I want them to lay eggs, for example. Some of the varieties are cobb chickens, ross chickens, and Hubbard chickens. This is what specialists call the genetic line.

Once you have chosen the type of chick you will raise, you have to select the area you will place them. This must be disinfected, and it must be sized according to the number of chicks you want to have. To get an idea, there may be eight chickens per square meter.

The second thing you have to do is prepare a bed for them, whether it be sawdust, straw or any other material that absorbs moisture and is not toxic to birds. You should also put water on them and make sure very often that it is clean.

The last thing will be to cover the entire area intended for the chicks to protect them from extreme climates and drafts and so that the temperature is always more or less the same. As you grow, let them go out of the corral to become familiar with the outside.

Although the traditional food for chickens is oatmeal, feed them various foods such as ground corn. They also like apple sauce and breadcrumbs.

We advise you to put a lamp, normally about 250 watts, to give them heat. Ensure that the chicks are not placed under it, because if they were, it would mean that they are cold, and you would have to put one of more voltage. Now you have the basics to be able to raise your chicks quickly and in your garden. It will be effortless, and you will give joy to your children.
